Seems like it's been forever since I first returned to the community, rabid to follow the progress of Halo. I remember I had huge plans for the gaming club, of which I was just gaining presidency in a non-hostile takeover (that's another story), and I was praying for the massive co-op, continuous world everyone rumored and hyped the game to be.
I remember going to bed imaginging trying to achieve dominance over Halo bit by bit with a large group of friends. I had these crazy visions where I would use a plotter to print a map of Halo, which we'd keep on a center table, and use to devise strategy, and such.
Wow, were my ideas way off. =)
Oddly enough, though, I never had any doubt that Halo would be a first person shooter. Even when all the 3rd person and rts-styled footage came out, I kept picturing an fps. At least I was right about that.
I think one of the things that seperates me from many of the other people who were sucked in by the hype machine is that, when solid details about the game arose, I was just as excited as I had been when I was picturing my various co-op situations. I guess I just have an innate awareness of hype versus tru7h.
Heh, I've been awfully nostalgic lately, I think beta testing Halo PC did it. Seeing Halo hanging in space on the PC brought back the same awe and excitement that seeing Halo on an XBox for the first time did.
Such is the power of Bungie, I suppose. =)
