Q. What Glyphs?

A. The Glyphs were originally found at the top of the www.bungie.org homepage. We're not sure exactly when they appeared, but it has been a few months. Many folks did not pick up on the fact that they were actually worth looking into. A general malaise attitude regarding puzzles in the Bungie community can be attributed to the lackluster welcome it received. Considering that it did not come directly from Bungie, many folks cynically figured it would lead to possibly meaningless gibberish that was not at all worthwile. We count ourselves among that crowd. :)

However two recent events directly spurred Miguel into drawing more attention to them: 1 - During Matt Soell's keynote at Bungie Fanfest V he 'accidently' included a slide of the Glyphs and professed ignorance as to what they were about. 2 - Miguel overheard Matt and Claude talk about the Glyphs and the fact that no one had cracked them yet.

Now that interest has been drawn to them, you can find them in several places, all modified to assist us in solving the puzzle. The image above is directly taken from Matt's Powerpoint file used during the keynote. Miguel then cleaned it up and replaced the tiny numeral font with a more legible font. You'll find more below.

Q. What do these circles represent?

A. Unknown but we figure that's the point of the puzzle: figure out what they represent and the rest will click in place. We just need to "decode" them.

Q. When viewed on the Bungie.org homepage, does each symbol correspond to the link below it?

A. Unknown, although many folks have posited such an idea.

Q. What will this puzzle solve?

A. We are not sure however we have been told that it is a story that we can't even begin to imagine. Practically speaking, there is a prize being offered for anyone that solves it. We don't know what that prize is, nor do we know what will happen if a *group* of people claim they have solved it. (will they each get the same prize?)

Q. Does the classic Bungie game series Marathon factor into this puzzle?

A. Yes!

Q. Are the Glyphs the only components of this puzzle or do we need something else?

A. We feel pretty confident that the puzzle is only in the Glyphs. Aside from that, general knowledge of Bungie's games and history wouldn't hurt either.
