More Halo Novels

I hope I'm not jinxing this, but a quick perusal of Brannon Boren's journal has turned up this very informative quote posted about a month ago:

I was told today that I will be tapped to work on development for "Halo Novel #3", which was pretty cool news.

Other journal entries and his recent post over at HBO has made it pretty clear that as of now, Bungie/Microsoft is gearing up an ongoing series of books taking place in the Halo universe. This is fabulous news!

p.s. He also mentions how cool the Halo figures and vehicles are shaping up!

I think That the makers of halo are off the hook

Posted by: John O'Sullivan on May 12, 2003 2:48 PM

it's impossible for this guy to be creating the third novel because Eric Nylund (author of Halo: the Fall of Reach) has been working on it already. It's called Halo: First Strike and is available for pre-order at amazon.com.

Posted by: Stranger1623 on August 9, 2003 11:04 AM

What Brannon meant is that he helps bring the novel to fruition. No where does he say he's the author. Brannon was involved with Halo Novel #2, and yet you don't see him listed as an author.

Of course, Brannon no longer works with that particular division, but that doesn't imply he wasn't working on the third Halo novel right before he was let go.

Hope that clears things up.

Whoohooo, Halo Action figures are finally here!!!

there is a third halo novel coming out in December 3 2003. it will be called First Strike. This book is right after Halo is destroyed. Master cheif and Cortana a sweeping the area for surviors while avoiding covenant forces. they will use there escape ship to go to other planets and fight. they do go to the moon and Earth it sounds awesome

cool, a halo novel#3. i was waiting for this for a long time.i can't wait....

Posted by: andrew maracle on November 25, 2003 9:36 AM

I have read the first 7 chapters in halo first strike. it came out last week. the first pages are unreal. it takes you back to the battle at reach but instead of showing the Master Cheif's battle, it takes you to the other spartans battles. a new main charecter is Fred who was thought to be dead in the first one him and kelly you will see alot of there story. and some people actually made it off halo besides the master cheif and cortana. A Must buy book to all halo fans.

Posted by: donald on December 8, 2003 1:58 PM

these are soon to be movies. IHOPE! if they are, it will be a hit.

I have read the first and third novels based on Halo and started the second, the flood, and am on the second chapter, Halo. All three novels are excellent and exciting although i do favor the books by Eric Nylund over William C Dietz, and i am now convinced that as soon as Halo 2 is released a fourth novel will be in the works.

November 9th my friends.

Posted by: MT on June 3, 2004 2:36 PM

I own and have read all 3 novels at leats twice aech. my question is how does the third novel tie in with halo2 bacuase all you see about halo2 is him fighting at earth. i wonder...

Posted by: Logan on July 6, 2004 11:55 PM

I'm still wondering how the whole story of Master Chief and Halo will be tied in with the events that take place in the pre-quil games to Halo, "Marathon" and "Marathon II, Durandal". Both are excellent games aparently set in the same universe as Halo, but occouring to bio-mechanical cyborg human warriors (reanimated from dead soliders) fighting alien slavers in a part of the Galaxy distant from Earth and her colonies. The events of Marathon occour either somewhat before Halo, or centuries afterwards.

Posted by: rgayers on July 11, 2004 6:07 PM

Unfortunately, you're not the first person to think the two storylines are interconnected. They in fact are not.

http://marathon.bungie.org/story/halo_backstory.html

http://halo.bungie.org/faq/story.html#thonconnects

The most glaring problem is that in the Marathon timeline, if it in fact was in line with the Halo timeline, Earth forces would have faster-than-light capabilities for their spaceships during their battles with the Covenant. They don't which is why Earth is in such danger.

Regardless, the Marathon storyline still kicks serious ass. If you get the opportunity to play it, go for it.

I own and have read all three of the Halo novels, and i must say, they're pretty damn good. If you love the game, READ THE BOOKS! I hope they make a fourth. And i suggest you pre-order a copy of halo 2 right now, its a good deal:)

Posted by: Dan on October 6, 2004 11:26 PM

are there marathon books?

Posted by: gutscher on November 28, 2004 5:03 PM

There are no books that revolve around the Marathon universe. The games though have *much* content within them. They could be novellas themselves.

Posted by: Miguel on November 28, 2004 7:35 PM

i hate how halo 2 ends in a cliffhanger if anybody knows what happens to cortana after she is left with the monument let me know!!!

maybe she copied herself like she did in first strike and the mane copy is back with her?
i am quite curious about this so if you have any answers about this let me know!!!!

Posted by: joe on December 5, 2004 12:02 PM

yeah, id like to know what happens to her too, there just cant be a master cheif without cortana..it just doesnt work.

Are there going to be new novels for Halo 2? I would be so depressed if there wasn't.

Posted by: halo/2 game/book fan on January 9, 2005 6:40 PM

i hope they have more novels, it would suck if there wasnt. ive read all three, i forgot how many each. also i think cortana goes bad, cause she doesnt even fight back when that thing asks her to answer his questions. and if they are makin a fourth novel, i hope eric nylund writes it, william dietz didnt do so good and did anyone notice how many times he called MC "the spartan"?

Posted by: Amanda on January 11, 2005 6:06 PM

not 2 b rude but dietz was the reason i got the other 2 novels. i dont care wut others said but i think dietz was superb and almost as good as (if not better) eric nylund. anyway he wuz the reason i got the other 2 novels by nylund. i want another 2-4 boox in the series u no like for halo 2 and like a book wen the spartans actually complete their 1st mission. the details by both authors were placin me on halo and everywhee else. GO SLIPKNOT!!!!!

tartarus did what?!?. How do you know he was sent to attack earth. Cuz if he did, good luck, cuz he got his ass handed to him in da game. BTW when is the 4th book coming out ARGH! and HALO 3 BETTER COME OUT. If bungie and microsoft deicde to stop at 2, i will start an army to destroy the 2 companies. There are 7 ring worlds, so there better as to hell be at least 7 games. Cuz i wanna at least be able to goto each of them, and hopefully obliterate them like installation 04 in halo 1. I like blowing up things XD

Posted by: IM GORDO on July 12, 2005 6:36 PM

I dunno what the next storyline will be 4 Halo 3 but there are some clues-
1) The ending of Halo 2 with Cortana and Gravemind- questions to be answered.
2) The alliance between the Arbiter and Sgt. Johnson
3) at the end of the 3rd book, Dr. Halsey and SPARTAN -82 (i think) depart unexpectedly from the captured Covenant Flagship in a longsword- WHY???
Also, i want to know what happened to the captured flagship that the Master Cheif/John/SPARTAN-117 got? If the humans could use that technology, that would be a turning point in the Human-Covenant war.

Posted by: Chaz@ty on July 16, 2005 6:24 AM

Also, why aren't the Covenant Engineers in Halo 1 or 2? That would be great- getting them to repair your vehicles and armour. Also, I would like to fight alongside the other SPARTANS...hmmmm...
I think Halo 3 should have a more survival horror based theme like Halo 1. It gave me a lot of satisfaction finding isolated groups of marines and grouping together. Nice.

Posted by: chaz@ty on July 16, 2005 6:28 AM

actually, dr halsey and kelly (spartan whatevernumber) technically escaped in a chitoptera(sp.?) not a longsword from the outpost on the asteroid, not the covenant ship itself. the fourth book i figure will probably release around the time of halo 3 for obvious hype reasons. i'm ready personally.

Posted by: beau on July 20, 2005 12:26 PM

i think halo 3 is about the battle of reach or mabe the past of halo because like starwars, going back to the begining could be good 4 the sales

Posted by: sg on July 22, 2005 10:18 AM

Well to answer a question from WAY earlier, here's the game/book timeline:
The Fall of Reach
Halo/The Flood
First Strike
Halo 2

Posted by: F15pilotX on August 2, 2005 7:32 PM

i think the story will end on planet earth or the (ark) with master chief activing all the rings to kill what is left the covenant and flood.
also bungie gives alot refences to Bible if u think about one the flood destroys the forrunners just like in the Bible destorys the humans they fled to ark or earth for a safe haven. humans=forunner

tell me what u think at email

Posted by: simon66 on August 3, 2005 2:52 PM

So you think the humans are the forerunners?

I think that the humans are going to create an alliance with the Elites, the Grunts, and the Hunters.
I don't know what to think about Cortana. I hope she'll come back, but I don't expect it.
And shouldn't Johnson and Keyes destroy the Delta Halo so the flood don't escape and infect other planets. High Charity should be destroyed too.

Oh yeah, that Penitent Tangent guy was even worse that Guilty Spark. I'm just saying.

Posted by: Zephyr on August 14, 2005 5:36 PM

Hey it's been awhile since I've read the books, but from what I remember isn't there more like a group of spartans alive at the end of first strike, where the hell did they go in halo 2?

Posted by: lorddirk on August 22, 2005 12:11 AM

first strike they go back into time if u look at the times in the books. that will be intresting twist i hope....time travel is makes stories kind of suck.... well just me what u think

Posted by: simon66 on August 27, 2005 5:22 PM

(Posted Also, why aren't the Covenant Engineers in Halo 1 or 2? That would be great- getting them to repair your vehicles and armour. Also, I would like to fight alongside the other SPARTANS...hmmmm...

Lol, why does that make me laugh?

Posted by: Meh.. on August 27, 2005 9:33 PM

I agree with the guy above me, i liked halo's story line better than i liked halo 2's. I thought that halo 2's story was much more predictable than the originals. BTW i want to know if a fourth novel is supposed to come out soon.

Posted by: matty47 on August 31, 2005 7:27 PM

"I think that the humans are going to create an alliance with the Elites, the Grunts, and the Hunters"
That would be crap, no more killing grunts :(

Posted by: Spartan_Warrior on September 3, 2005 7:02 PM

I think that In Halo 3, The humans will join in battle with the Elites, grunts, and hunters (team name HHEG) and fight the brutes, prophits, jackles, and drones (team name PBJD), and they will all fight the flood together *YAY*...ok...so I also think the humans are forrunners, because there are alot of things that point to that like 343 Guilty Spark thinking Mastrer Cheif was a forrunner, or how Fred, the main spartan (besides MC) in first strike lit up the cave walls whit his hand, or a whole bunch of other stuff. Also, The 3 halo books are probably the best books I ever read, and beat the harry potter series. The FPS action in HALO 1&2 is da bomb, And the halo Games are the best out there, and Any one who differs from that FACT sucks.
-Thank you :-)

Posted by: invalid on September 3, 2005 8:23 PM

i heard that halo 3 will be released the same day as the ps3 as a counter action all i know is i want them now and i want more novels, i read the flood first and i think that the actual battle scenes between masterchief and the covenant are done better by william c dietz but eric nylund tells a better story also, was it just me or were the dates in the fall of reach wrong by ten years?, just my opinions so dont judge to harshly.

Posted by: underdunk on September 4, 2005 6:31 AM

All i can say is that i loved the 3 books the same, awesome, thats all I have to say. Before i saw this site I didnt really think about the humans being forerunners. I also think we might team up with the elites, hunters, etc. The MC and the Arbiter teamed up, whats to say both of their sides don't buddy up either.

Posted by: Matty47 on September 4, 2005 3:40 PM

On gamespot (If you havent heard of the web site, you need to go. gamespot.com) They are already saying that halo 3 is coming out, and on Gamestop.com, they are letting you pre-order Halo 3, even though it's not offical, and I saw this picture of a dude on tv (his dad works for microsoft) playing HALO 3 on the 360. For all you disbelievers out there... well... your wrong.
Also, I think that people don't give The Flood, by William C. Dietz enough credit. I am currently re-reading it and I have read the other 2 twice. He couldn't really tell his own story, because it had to match the game, but he did anyway with the elite side-story. he didn't have alot to work with, but still made a great story. I also think that he really told how one would turn into a flood very well. It also teaches you more about what was going on in halo 1 better then a game could. Also, Have you guys noticed how all 3 of the books are *I think* between 340, and 341 pages long? I know this was a long post, but... deal with it. Peace out!!!

Posted by: Invalid on September 10, 2005 9:11 PM

I saw the picture of the guy playing Halo 2 on the 360, but not Halo three. It was his dad's beta 360 kit and he took picture and posted it in the internet. None the less the dad is fired from Microsoft now.

Posted by: Matty47 on September 14, 2005 7:06 PM

question where the hell did dr. hasley run off with kelly? hey give me your replies thx

Posted by: simon66 on September 22, 2005 7:33 PM

I guess she took kelly off on some mission to find forrunner stuff, or kill the covenant... like, attack them at the heart. and use the energy reactor that powers the shield as a bomb or something. really, I don't think anyone know.

Posted by: invalid on September 24, 2005 6:59 PM

well im goin to give my regards to both authors on writing the halo novels. well done. i think that those three books contend with tom clancys best, and that my friends is high praise to say the least. as for halo 2= i was sorta disapointted that bungie had that much time to make the game and the game overall was not as thrilling as the first. it was pretty glichy and some elements in the gameplay just werent convicing. butt halo 2 was deffinatly worth the wait no matter what the problems. HALO FOR LIFE (and maybe after?)

It's very well done, with all the details like "continuing the saga of the award winnging x-box TM gameS (notice the s on GAMES) but something simple like not halo-a-fying the font for "gravemind" made it bogus. also, is Gravemind, like the leader of the flood? he can't be a forrunner, because forruners are humans....he looks like one of those Venus Fly Trap flowers...so what is he??? oh, and if anyone finds any information on Halo 3, please post it. pics, storyline, dates, important rumors, additions, anything! Posted by: Eazy MC on November 25, 2005 4:34 PM

Invalid: Yes, I noticed the discrepancy in the dates, too. The author made a mistake there, and the editor didn't catch it. If I had edited his book, I would have caught it, because, well, I did. :P And didn't you notice, too, the discrepancy in the third novel when they attacked the Ascendant Justice? They had sent the pelican ahead as a decoy to draw Covenant fire and to deploy mines while they followed in the longsword? The pelican was destroyed, and they boarded AJ in the longsword. Yet for the remainder of the story, they kept going back to the pelican for supplies. Eric Nylund can write a good story, but he's not very good at keeping up with the details. But then, that's what editors are for, so the editor should be blamed, whoever that is.

Posted by: Wes on December 5, 2005 1:02 PM

You should go over to the Halo Story Page, and read over what's been posted there, and if your discrepancy's haven't been noted, you can submit them and get credit for it!

Getting back to DR. Halsey and kelly, remember the star chart info. she read in Ackersons files?
"Its not in any portion of UNSC Controlled space..." maybe, she used Kelly as an excuse, and took her off of Ascendant Justice, Stole the Governers ship, and while Kelly was healing, Halsey took her to the unknown location on the star chart. And she probabley needed Kelly's strength and capabilities as a spartan to help. I dunno just s thought. post replies thx.

what order do the books go by

Posted by: rt on December 26, 2005 5:30 PM

I read the books and from what i can understand... I think First strike explains how the covy's found earth, how Cheif got back to Earth why there weren't more of them, and the spartans were an extra bonus. It's quite possible that they just went on separate missions than Cheif. It's quite possible that halsey and Kelly will be in Halo 3. For someone who don't have an X-box, I am DYING to know what happens in Halo 3. I know most of 2's story but i hear the end is a real cliffhanger. For someone who doesn't have an X-box my advice is this... Read the books... Then drop it where it is and assume everything will be okay. The only alternative is get an x-box 360.

Posted by: Guiltabyte on December 30, 2005 11:11 PM

Wes: yeah, I never noticed that before...they did have to abondon th pelicin, but they retrived a spartan from it, after they boarded the ship. Eric Nylund isn't very good at keeping track of things. A great story teller, just not so good at paying attention...geez. must have hired the editor of the streets, of something.

The Fall of Reach (pre-Halo)
The Flood (Halo)

i hope the fourth book will be as good as the first and second. The third book had to much talk in it, but the first and second book were the best.
when the movie comes out i hope it wolnt suck. that would be a pain to microsoft.

What about the few Spartans that were too far away to be called back - there was a brief mention about them in the Fall Of Reach but nothing more was said. Anyone think that they might make an appearance in Halo 3/the 4th novel?
There has to be more Spartans in Halo 3, the cheif needs help!

if i remember correctly from the end of the First Strike, the Spartan Grace dies from a Brute Shot, so that's one survivor of Reach gone. From what i've heard, no one knows what happened to Kelly. I'm not sure what happened to Linda,(but nice job sniping three elites out of banshees. could you do that in the game?). i think Anton and Fred were killed while they were stuck in Slipspace repairing the part of the ship when the plasma hit them. my friend thinks that in HALO3 there will be Spartans fighting along side you since no one knows what happened to Linda or Kelly. hopefully he's right 'cause it would be awesome to have Spartans watching your back. i'm really getting tired of the stupidity of the marines even though in HALO2 they are better. i'm also tired of them running me over. but what i hate the most is hearing something like "Hey Chief, that hurt!" while you're in the Scorpion and shooting the Ghosts on Metropolis on the bridge. That is why i normally shoot the one with the Battle Rifle in the head and let the rocket launcher one help me shoot ghosts, banshees, and wraiths. by the way, what does eveyone else think of the marines? just wondering.

my friend was looking up HALO3 info on www.gamefaqs.com i believe, i could be wrong about the site, but he told me that HALO3 has been leaked!! please GOD, let this be not true.

Ive just finished reading the final book First Strke for the second time. At the end the chief is on board the Gettysburg and there are 3 other spartans that are left with him - Linda, Will and Fred (the chief flew back and saved Linda). What I cant understand is why in Halo 2 it is only the chief? they must drop the other 3 off somewhere else on earth but I cant see why the chief would go it alone? I hope the next book that there is a good exlanation where they are and it doesnt just say nothing about them. Anyone got any ideas?

What is for sure though is that there are at least 5 spartans left ot including the two that are too far away to be called back quickly!
I hope they found James drifting in space as well :-)

Having read almost all of Eric S. Nylund's books, I dont know what to expect. If the earth got glassed too, i would not be surprised. It has already hapened on one of Eric's books (signal to noise).
I dont have the Url right now, but 2 weeks ago I saw a poster about the 4-rth novel, It was called Halo-Gravemind. The front cover looked pretty authentic but there's a high chance it might have been Photoshoped.

And about the # of spartans again, it's a real confusion. Go to
http://halosm.bungie.org/story/spartan.html
This website has EVERYTHING about halo that an average guy can possibly get his hands into. It took me a couple of hours to read everything the page had.

I can't wait for Halo 2 on Pc windows Vista ( the way it was meant to be played). And what i really cant WAIT for is to SEE halo PETER JACKSON style.
That movie will be kickas

Come on, people. You all need to calm down and WAIT PATIENTLY for the novel. If you were REAL Halo fans you would not keep blaming BUNGIE for being 'slow'. They GAVE you Halo!! HALO IS THE BEST REASON FOR ALL!!!! DON'T FORGET HALO!!

Oh, and Microsoft is just using HALO 2 as a marketing ploy so aton of people will buy Vista.

Wait about the pelican and them recovering Linda from it, the Cryo-tubes were on the Longsword.

Posted by: Dennis on March 14, 2006 4:47 PM

the gravemind book cover was doctered. but it would be pretty cool if a book was written about the forrunners, BEFORE the rings were activated.
I would buy that book, and read it in a day, even if it was 500 pages.

Posted by: ryan on June 5, 2006 6:35 AM

Alright, 4 any of U who don't know, Halo 3 is coming out sometime in 2007, as is the first Halo movie. The teaser trailer is on teh XBOX 360 LIVE marketplace. I think Cortana is evil!!!! O and there are 5 Spartans left from where Halo:First Strike left off, they are: MC(John, duh), Fred, Will, Kelly, and Linda. I don't know they're number's (cept the chief's of course) but Fred, Will, Linda, and MC went off in the Gettysburg with Sgt. Johnson and Cortana. Dr. Halsey took (or kidnapped) Kelly and took her someplace. I do not know what happened 2 Linda, Fred, and Will in Halo 2?!?!??? And when in da hell is the 4th Halo book coming out?!!!?! God!!!!!!!!!!!! I must read it!!!!! Hopefully, it will come out within the next month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can't wait 4 it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
